Hello all! Sorry its been so long since my last update. These past few months have been weird, between business and a pandemic life has been anything but “normal”.

A couple months ago I was asked to do my most challenging piece yet, a 9′ x 5′ abstract for a local business here in Lexington Kentucky, located in The Summit. Now we all know I can’t just go buy a massive gessobord from the store, preamade and ready to go. So, my amazing boyfriend and I had to build it from the ground up.

Starting with the frame, we needed something secure, but also light in weight. So we chose an oak wood that not only is beautiful but did the exact job we needed it to do. Next is the paneling, we had a few different options here, we were on the fence between birch wood and hard boad. Inevitably going with 3 5’x3′ hard boards for it’s lightness and smoothness, no sanding required yay! To secure the panels to the oak frame, we used wood glue and a million tack nails going along all edges and down the middle. The next problem was how do we feel in the gaps from the hard panels not fitting together perfectly? After a lot of over thinking, the easiest solution was treating it like drywall. After lots and lots of sanding. The primer was ready to be put on, Kilz primer is my absolute favorite and after what seemed to 100 coats. I was FINALLY ready to paint. Which was the easiest thing about this entire project, I must say! We (my entire little family) poured the epoxy resin about 160 oz, on it last night and now just patiently waiting for the hardening process to work its magic. As long as nothing weird happens, and I don’t need to fix the resin, we should have it ready to be hung by next week! And I’m so very excited. Be sure to toon in the next week or two to see the 100 % completed project!
